Then, I thought about it and realized that Boards of Canada probably just used the same synth to make the lead part of Roygbiv. I first started with the bass for Roygbiv. Here is a link to the manual: rolandsh-101ownersmanual TAL-BassLine-101 is a monophonic bass synthesizer and a very accurate emulation of the popular SH 101. But the hw gets you a nice vibe in the studio. But a lot of these old analog synths is like collecting stamps, you can get most done in sw and you can't tell the difference. I downloaded the original instruction booklet for the SH-101 and used that as a basis for learning how the synthesizer works. The SH-101 hw has a nice Roland cascade filter with a slight circuit change that makes it sound even nicer for mono bass. The controls on the TAL product are nearly identical to the original SH-101 hardware. Roygbiv Bass Settings on TAL Bassline 101 (SH-101 Emulation) One of the synthesizers used by Boards of Canada was the Roland SH-101 and TAL makes a great recreation of this classic synth named “TAL Bassline 101.” It is low-cost yet gives an authentic sound.
